Belinda and Tandy are developing a range of activities in the community which encourage people who want to practise English conversation skills to meet together. These activities provide non native speakers with opportunities to practise English conversation in a relaxed environment. We are always on hand to help informally with any grammar or vocabulary problems. Research shows that students feel more relaxed when they practise English conversation with people for whom English is not their first language. Our walks are a good way of getting to know the local area and getting some fresh air and exercise.
Meet up group for Brighton, Worthing and Shoreham to practise English conversation
We organise regular walk and talk groups.
Our walks take place in the Brighton,Worthing or Shoreham area. They are either around the town or in the countryside nearby. Each walk is approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours in length. We think that when you are walking with a group you have the opportunity to speak to lots of different people. This gives you time to practise your English conversation skills. Tandy and/or Belinda organise the walks and encourage everyone to chat in English as they walk along. As well as practising English conversation there is opportunity for you to make new friends and enjoy some gentle exercise. Each walk ends with refreshments in a local coffee shop.
Recent outings have included a walk around Preston Park, a trip to Brighton Marina and another to Stamner Park. People who join our walks are always happy to have the opportunity to practise their English conversation in a friendly environment. We believe that our students feel much more relaxed and not so worried about making mistakes when they are speaking to other people for whom English is a second language.
